The Division of Trauma, Burns, Critical Care & Acute Care Surgery is dedicated to providing the highest quality education to medical students, surgical residents and fellows. The division offers clerkships to third and fourth year medical students. Medical students receive educational opportunities through rotations with our trauma, critical care and burn teams.
Our Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care was the first in California to be accredited by the ACGME (1994). In 2006, we expanded the fellowship to two ACGME-approved one-year positions. The purpose of our fellowships is to develop excellent leaders, trauma surgeons and surgical intensive care specialists (intensivists) in both academic and clinical arenas.
The division also offers the following educational opportunities:
The Critical Care Core Conference lecture series consists of a series of weekly presentations given by division faculty members as well as by outside speakers. The topics are recommended by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for surgical critical care education.
