The Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery offers several educational training programs in techniques of advanced laparoscopy for surgical residents and community physicians throughout the academic year.
These programs are held in our state-of-the-art training facility which includes both an inanimate and animate laboratories.
The following basic and advanced surgical skills courses are presented annually:
Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgery/Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship
UC Irvine School of Medicine affords an excellent opportunity for advanced minimally invasive/bariatric surgical training. As a public institution, it attracts a large number of patients, all suitable for clinical teaching. As a university institution, it has teachers and surgeons of the highest academic caliber. Minimally invasive and endoscopic experience is extensive, including a wide variety of advanced laparoscopic procedures as well as therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopy. Each fellow will spend 12 months on the Minimally Invasive Gastrointestinal & Bariatric Surgery service. The service has at three operative days per week. Emergencies constitute less than 1% of patient care. This service is staffed by four faculty members and one additional volunteer faculty. Applicants will apply through the Fellowship Council .
