Research

Research activities abound within the Division of Colon & Rectal Surgery, ranging from common colorectal issues such as hemorrhoids to novel surgical techniques for complex rectal cancer.

The division employs a research assistant, statistical analyst and full-time research resident. Research flourishes and is aided by collaborative relationships with the UC Irvine Department of Epidemiology, Center for Health Policy Research and the Beckman Laser Institute. Products of the department have been presented at local and national meetings and published in national and international journals. Recent projects include:

• Animal labs investigating novel devices and surgical techniques
• Non-invasive hemorrhoidectomy using state-of-the-art laser techniques in conjunction with the Beckman Laser Institute
• Novel rectal cancer treatment utilizing combined minimally invasive endovascular and colorectal techniques
